As you get ready for your dental appointment with us, it’s normal to feel a little nervous or scared. Dental treatments can be scary sometimes! However, there is no need to feel nervous or scared when you work with us, and that’s because we happily provide nitrous oxide to help you have the best and most comfortable experience possible.
What is nitrous oxide?
Nitrous oxide is a light, safe, and effective sedative that is inhaled through the nose. Nitrous oxide is also known as laughing gas, and it is generally offered when you are scheduled for a more serious dental treatment. This sedative is not intended to make you fall asleep, and you should be awake and responsive throughout the entire treatment.
How will I be sedated?
First, your dentist will help you feel as comfortable as possible in one of our dental chairs. Then, they will cover your nose with a mask. The mask will then release the sedative into the air and you will inhale it with each breath you take. The effects will take place in just a few minutes, and it will also wear off quickly once your dentist takes the mask away.
How will it make me feel?
This sedative will make you tingly, light headed, and relaxed. It will finally make you feel comfortable in the hands of the dentist. This sedative also wears off quickly once the dentist takes the mask off your nose, so don’t worry about having a ride home from the office once you are done with the treatment.
